Faculty

Blaive, Muriel, PhD, Section of Communist History in the Collegium‘s. Graduated from the Institute of Political Sciences in Paris. Muriel Blaive is a member of CEFRES (French Centre of Social Sciences and Research) in Vienna. She has written several books and articles and a screenplay for a documentary film. The main focus of her research is the memory of communism.

Brouland, Pierre, Historian, specialist on Central Europe, University of Economics, Prague (VŠE), agrégé of History. He is the author of many books and articles.

Buben, Radek, PhD candidate, Political Scientist - Charles University in Prague.

Jacques, Christian, Associate Professor at the University of Réunion (France), specialist on painful memories in Europe. He was the coordinator of the Atelier des Sciences Sociales (Ehess, Charles University). He is the author of many articles, particularly on questions of nationalism.

Durrmeyer, Sébastien, PhD candidate, University of Marne-la-Vallée, and Charles University in Prague. Specializes in democratisation studies, he is a member of CEFRES  -  (French Centre of Social Sciences and Research). He is in charge of the collaboration of the CES (Central European Seminar) with the Latin American universities. He is a regular collaborator of the Institute of International Relations of the University of Santiago (Chile).

Grondin, Solange, PhD, Lawyer. Specialist of the methods of harmonization of European law. She is the author of many articles and the editor of Le droit communautaire de la consommation et sa transposition dans les Etats membres et dans les pays candidats (les exemples français et tchèques).  Cefres 2001, on the transposition of consumer law in the EU member states and in the candidates countries. She worked at the Law faculty of Charles University in Prague, and is still a member of the IREDE (Institut de Recherche Européenne de Droit Economique) in Toulouse.

Hutka, Jaroslav, former dissident, poet and singer; candidate for the Green party in the Czech Republic.

Jana Hybášková, Member of the European Parliament, (Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats) Doctor of Philosophy (Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, Charles University, Prague, 1989). Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Slovenia (1997-2001). Adviser to the State Secretary for European Affairs (2001-2002). Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Kuwait and Qatar (2002-2004). Member of the 'Evropští demokraté' (European Democrats) political party (2004). Holder of the decoration 'Záslužný kříž ministra obrany ČR II. stupně' (Cross of Merit of the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, Second Class).

Klíma, Karel, doc. JUDr. CSc., is the Vice-dean for international relations at the University of Plzeň, and Head of the Department of Constitutional Law. Former member of the executive board at the constitutional law association until 2004 (Rotterdam). Since 1997 until present he is an active member of the EU Group for Public Administration (Aix-en Provence).

Kožušník, Edvard, Chairman of the Office of the Head of the liberal-conservative opposition party in the country.  He also runs an on-line political marketing agency kozusnik.cz.

Maslowski, Nicolas, Political Scientist, specialist on social movements and on Central Europe, co-ordinator of the Central European PhD Seminar of Sociology and Political Sciences. Member of the LASP (Université de Nanterre), Laboratory of Analyses of Political Systems in Paris. He is the author of different articles and editor of books, among others The weight of History in Central European Societies of the 20th Century (with Zora Hlavickova), Central European Studies in Social Sciences, CES 2005.

Mikule, Martin, political scientist specialized in the analyses of Karl Popper and a journalist at TV Prima, a leading private TV station in the Czech Republic. He had co-operated with the public Czech Radio station for ten years before joining the foreign news department at TV Prima.  His specialisation is the politics of the EU member’s countries, and Middle East related issues.

Pavliková, Eva, Social and Political Scientist and Ethnologist, specialist on migration issues, teaches at Newton College in Brno. Lectures about European Ethnology at the Masaryk University in Brno. Member of the Predictive Team for Strategic Analyses on Economy and Society (CESES)

Pędziwol, Marek, Polish journalist, polyglot, specializes on Central and Eastern Europe, collaborates with newspapers all around Europe: Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, Luxemburg, France and Poland. Former correspondent of BBC in London, and of radio Deutsche Welle in Koln. Now Works for RFI (Paris), and MultiKulti (Radio Berlin-Brandenburg) and the Austrian newspaper WirtschaftsBlatt.  In Wroclaw in 2004 he organised, in collaboration with the Foundation for the United Europe and the Visegrad Festival, a conference « Finding a Common History » about populations in Europe living in border areas.

Fr. Rivas, Antonio, OSA, specializes in Germanic studies, concentrating on the issues of spiritual and religious developments in Europe.

Rulíková, Markéta, PhD, Received her MA degree at the Department of Sociology at the Central European University in Warsaw and a PhD degree from the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of The Polish Academy of Sciences. She was a Visiting Scholar at Keene State College, USA and is currently affiliated as Assistant Professor with Colby-Sawyer College, USA. She published several articles on European issues, namely connected with the candidacy and accession process of the new members to the EU.

Scheu Harald Christian, Doc. Mag. phil. Dr. iur. Ph.D., Educated at the University of Salzburg (Dr.iur., 1995, Mag.phil., 1996) and the Charles University in Prague (Ph.D., 1997). Associate Professor of International Law at the Department of International Law at the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague. Lectures and conducts research in the field of International and Human Rights Law.  He is as well a diplomat at the Austrian Embassy in Prague (attaché for European affairs during the Austrian Presidency).

Sedláček, Tomáš Graduated in Economic theories at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Prague, where he currently acts as a free-lance lecturer and works on his PhD. He deals with theoretical economy, the history of economic theories. He used to work as advisor to former Czech president Václav Havel, currently he is advisor to the Czech Minister of Finances.

Sedláčková, Markéta Studied Sociology at the Philosophical Faculty of the Charles University in Prague, where she also works on her PhD. She also has a PhD scholarship at the Institut des Sciences Politiques in Paris. Since 2001 she has been working as a specialist at the Institute of Sociology at the Czech Academy of Sciences. She is also affiliated with the Department of Sociology at the Philosophical Faculty of the Charles University. She specializes in the issue of trust and social capital of the democratic systems in the context of post communist transformation.

Šmejkal, Václav, PhD, Lawyer and Head of the European Consulting Institute-Réma, he teaches as well at Charles University. Until February 2004, he was the representative of the Czech business representation in Brussels, and before 1998 he was the director of the Centre for the European Integration of the Czech Chamber of Commerce. He was also a consultant and a journalist. He is a member of the Czech Management Association and of many other institutions. He is the author of many articles related to the EU.
